Hirschgasse, Heidelberg

Location: Hirschgasse 3, Heidelberg, across the river Neckar, opposite the Castle

This is the place to stay if you really want something unique and luxurious within walking distance of all the major sites. The Hotel Hirschgasse was first mentioned in 1472 (20 years before the discovery of America) in an aristocratic love story. It is situated peacefully in a little side valley, in a select residential area at the beginning of the world famous “Philosophers walk” on the northern banks of the River Neckar, opposite the old Castle. It is a beautiful, small hotel offering exquisite Laura Ashley suites – even with whirlpool tubs. Built in timber style and lots of sandstone cubes, it reflects the medieval times of Heidelberg.

Each of the 20 suites has it own name, like Blueberry Suite, Paisley Suite or Apricot Suite and offers lavishly luxury with antiques, thick carpets, triple lined curtains and original leather Chesterfields. From here you enjoy a fascinating short 10 minute walk to the heart of the Old town - always having the dominating castle on the other side within your view. And then you are conquering the town by just strolling over the Old Bridge. You can use the bus stop Nr. 34 which brings you to the hotel. For your car there is enough own free parking in front of our hotel.

The hotel offers two restaurants:

Restaurant Le Gourmet

The Le Gourmet is well known around Heidelberg and beyond as being one of the very best. It holds the highest ranking of all Heidelberg restaurants in the Restaurant Gourmet guides. (Varta Guide 1 chefs hat, Gault Millau 15 Points) Expect to receive utmost attentive service with a creative German-Mediterranean cuisine prepared by our star chef. Dining here is a real experience not to be missed. The ambience is emotional rouge with fabrics covering on walls and ceilings, heavy curtains silencing secrets and candlelight enhancing the warm romantic and friendly atmosphere.

Restaurant Mensurstube:

The second restaurant is called the historic Mensurstube and offers regional specialities like spaezle and dumplings, wheat beer and Lager fresh from the tap. You will sit on over 250 year old oak tables bearing the signature of count Otto von Bismarck, surrounded by old pictures and swords remembering the times when the Heidelberg students still used to duell (1000 fights per semester) here. Also, Mark Twain watched the duels and sat here writing his first lines of “A tramp abroad” when he visited the Hirschgasse several times. Enjoy over 500 years of authentic Heidelberg in a little Student Prince Museum!
